Netflix Inspired Unique Baby Names

If you’re struggling with picking a name that’s somewhat unique but not outlandish, turning to names used in entertainment can be helpful.

Oftentimes, these names are not super popular, and I have to admit that Hollywood makes some good choices in regards to naming their characters. Below, you will find a list of names from numerous Netflix shows that’ll hopefully give you some ideas for a unique baby name.

All of these are Netflix original series or movies. I only chose ones that were uncommon, so you’ll have to search elsewhere for your Bob and Rachel.

Eleven “El”: Stranger Things

A young girl with psychokinetic abilities, a strange appearance, and a limited vocabulary.

Kimmy: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

The main character. She’s optimistic, displays a child-like sense of wonder, and is trying to navigate getting the life back that was taken from her. We LOVE Kimmy at our house.

Lillian: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy and Titus’ strange landlady. She has a complex criminal history but has a very big heart.

Xanthippe: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Jacqueline’s pretty and popular step-daughter. She seems bratty, but just has a lot of problems stemming from her bad upbringing.

Maxine “MadMax”: Stranger Things

Billy’s younger step-sister and the tomboy of the group. Maxine is also the name of a character in Russian Doll, she’s the friend that throws Nadia’s birthday party.

Piper: Orange is the New Black

Main character inmate in maximum security – I kind of love her!

Hannah: Dark

Jonas Kahnwald’s mother, who works as a massage therapist. Hannah is also the name of the girl who committed suicide and recorded the audio tapes that the show is based around in 13 Reason’s Why.

Ffion: Black Mirror

Ffion was the main female character in the episode “The Entire History of You”, where people must have “grains” recording everything they do, see, or hear so that they can play back their memories. I loved this episode and there’s been talk of making it into a movie.

Ada: Peaky Blinders

The Shelby brothers’ only sister – she’s not initially involved with the Peaky Blinder’s but is later on in the series.

Maeve: Sex Education

A bad-girl social outcast who eventually becomes friends with Otis and begins the therapy clinic with him.

Misty: Luke Cage

A NYPD detective who is determined to learn about Cage. She is dedicated to protecting her community.

Emaline: Everything Sucks!

A dramatic junior who also happens to be in drama club. She’s also Oliver’s ex-girlfriend.

Tilda: Luke Cage

A holistic doctor who cannot stay out of trouble in Harlem.

Evangeline: Bloodline

The mother of Nolan Rayburn, who still has business with the Rayburn family.

The main character – a violinest with no apparent supernatural powers. Eventually we find she possesses an incredibly powerful ability which her father suppressed with drugs to keep others safe.

Claudia: Dark

Regina Tiedemann’s mother, who is the director of the nuclear plant in 1986.

Valeria: Narcos

A Columbian journalist who is also Pablo Escobar’s mistress.

Dinah: The Punisher

An Iranian-American Homeland Security special agent who was stationed in Afghanistan but returns to New York City for an investigation.

Frankie: Grace & Frankie

A hippie art teacher – one of the main characters.

Ash: Black Mirror

He’s the main character in the second series of Black Mirror. He dies but his girlfriend makes an artificial Ash because she’s pregnant and wants him back.

Luther: The Umbrella Academy

An astronaut with super strength. His upper body is an ape because he was injected with a serum that saved his life, but had that unfortunate side-effect.

Fabio: Narcos

A high-ranking member of the Medellin cartel in season one.

Remi: Sex Education

A photographer who eventually marries Princess Margaret.

Malcolm: The Defenders

Jessica Jones’ neighbor and assistant at Alias Investigations.

Klaus: A Series of Unfortunate Events

The middle Baudelaire child, interested in books and literature.

A data scientist and NSA contractor who is friends with LeAnn Harvey.

Matt Murdock: Daredevil

I know this isn’t a unique name – but I LOVE this character..plus, Matt is my husband’s name so I’m a little partial. Murdock would make a unique first name.

Takeshi: Altered Carbon

The main character, but we see him in many different skins.

Jonas: Dark

A high school student that is struggling with his dad’s suicide.

Mikkel: Dark

Magnus and Martha Neilsen’s little brother.

Ulrich: Dark

Magnus, Martha, and Mikkel Neilsen’s father, who works as a police officer.

Aleksander: Dark

Bartosz Tiedemann’s father who works as the director of the nuclear plant in 2019.

Holden: Mindhunter

A special agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit.

Grayson: American Vandal

A student that was expelled for social media antics.

Dev: Master of None

A commercial actor whose best-known work was a yogurt commercial.

Brooks: The Perfect Date

The main character – high school senior with dreams of getting into Yale.

TIPS FOR PICKING A UNIQUE NETFLIX BABY NAME

If you’re going to choose a Netflix baby name, make sure that you know the character that you’re naming your baby after. While there’s nothing wrong with choosing a villainous character as your baby’s honored name, be sure that you’re at least aware of it.

With that said – I do want to add that if you hate the character but love the name, still give some serious consideration to using the name. You will associate the name with wherever you originally know it from – but this is temporary (I promise!)

For example, I was never going to have kids. I gave my cat my favorite name in the world because I didn’t plan on having kids of my own.

Then I had kids, so we changed the name of the cat. At first, it was hard to think of my daughter’s name without thinking of the cat, but I got there eventually.

Regardless of what baby name you decide, try not to stress it too much. It IS a big decision – but as long as you choose something you like, you’ll end up associating it with your baby and loving it (because you love your baby!)
