Tips for Choosing a Baby Girl Name with Two Syllables
Choosing a baby name is one of the hardest decisions you’re going to make. It felt a little silly to me, but in reality, they will be stuck with it for their entire life. so it’s WORTH being a little worried over.
Either way, I wanted to give you some pointers on choosing your baby name. I made a video you can watch that’s linked above with some pretty basic (but super important) tips.
If you aren’t interested in watching the video, I thought I would outline those tips for you.
Don’t choose an unknown spelling of a name. We all want our kids to be unique (because they ARE unique), but choosing a strange spelling of a popular name is not the way to do this.
Your child will have to correct the spelling (and maybe pronunciation) everywhere they go in life – and I promise it’ll get annoying.
There are usually alternative ways of spelling things that are well accepted in society, so it’s not like you have to choose the most common spelling of a name – but I do recommend staying away from silent letters or additional letters that just aren’t necessary.
Don’t choose a name because you feel pressured by family. This can be hard – but many of us don’t want to use family names because they just sound…odd.
And that’s ok. You can’t pay homage to every member of your family, so it’s better to stick to something you like.
Watch those initials. This one is pretty simple. Don’t use the first name Alfred if your baby has a middle and last initial that start with S. Unless you really want to.
Do you like the nickname? We chose a longer name for both of our daughters so that they could have “options” when they get older. Luckily, we chose the nickname BEFORE we chose the first name – and a big reason for this is because we knew we would end up calling our girls by their shortened nickname more often than we would call them by their whole name.
This has proven to be true. Honestly, I kind of wish we could change their names legally to the shortened version because we’re constantly having to correct their “unique” name choices.
Wrapping Up Baby Girl Names with Two Syllables
