I remember how overwhelming being a new mother can be, so I wanted to create a place that new mothers could go to get accurate and up-to-date parenting advice. I have experience in the Psychology field and have worked in child-care, along with taking care of two kiddos of my own.
The definition of enlightened is “having or showing a rational, modern, and well-informed outlook.” This is my goal–to provide you with research-based information during your journey through pregnancy and motherhood.
I have almost completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology, and I plan to attend a master’s program in child psychology.
I worked as a technician with critically ill animals for seven years and managed to bring home some of the homeless and hopeless. I dealt with people at their worst, people who were having to make some of the hardest decisions of their lives. This taught me a lot about what works and what doesn’t when coping with high-stress situations.
I have worked in a treatment center for teenage girls recovering from an assortment of mental illnesses. Here I worked closely with top counselors and social workers and learned about what it means to approach things from a positive and healthy perspective.
I recently spent some time employed at an emergency shelter for children who were removed from homes due to violence or other trauma. This was probably one of my most difficult experiences. I gained a lot of meaningful relationships, as well as traumatic memories of the things I saw. This experience drove me to do as much research as possible in order to be the very best mother I can be.
A little about my personal life…
I am married to a man who is ever-so-patient and supportive of me. I am truly grateful for him. We have two daughters together, Monkey and Moppet. Like any parent, I believe my girls are the most sensitive, sassy, and amazing beings on the planet. We have three dogs and three cats (from my days as an emergency veterinary technician). I love knitting, and spending time with my family. Between school, work, the blog, kids, pets, husband, and knitting I don’t have time for much else!
