Over the last year, I have been searching for the best wearable blankets for toddlers in 2023.
We didn’t use a sleep sack for our oldest child, but we’ve used one for our second child since she was born.
We LOVE our wearable blankets..enough that I’ve considered trying to find a version for myself. Almost.
It has been time for an upgrade for little Moppet (our youngest) for a while now..but I had a lot of trouble finding a sleep sack that was meant for a toddler.
Related: The Best Toddler Schedule
Strangely enough – I found plenty of reference to sleep sack recommendations for babies, but not a lot of information is readily available for the best wearable blankets for toddlers specifically.
I wanted to share the ones I found with you – at least the ones that didn’t suck. There were a couple that we tried and were less than impressed with, so we skipped over those for this review.
We have personally used most of these sleep sacks, although some recommendations come from friends of mine.

WOOLINO 4 SEASON SLEEP SACK
The Woolino 4 Season Sleep Sack (see it here) is probably one of the nicest sleep sacks for toddlers on the market.
Unlike most wearable blankets that are usually made from Polyester, these sleep sacks are made from Australian Merino wool. This sounds fancy because it kind of is.
The nice thing about Merino is it is able to thermo-regulate depending on the temperature of the room. This means that regardless of climate or time of year, you know your little one will NOT overheat with this wearable blanket.
Also – Merino is not scratchy like other kinds of wool, it stays soft, and is a durable material.
SIZE: 6m-3t
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS TODDLER SLEEP SACK
There isn’t much NOT to love about this product. It’s soft, made from natural material (cotton and merino), and can be used year-round.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES
This is probably one of the most expensive options on the market. While that’s true, it is probably worth it if it will not need to be replaced or switched out due to changes in weather.
HALO SLEEP SACK

A Halo Sleep Sack (like this one) can be used through the toddler years.
Although the sleep sacks listed in the link above are for sizes 2-5t, you can get some variation of the Halo sleepsack from a newborn size to 5t.
One of the main differences between a baby Halo sleep sack and Halo’s toddler sleep sack is that the toddler version does not come with covered feet.
The feet area is split minimally so that your walking kiddo can still walk with their wearable blanket (albeit not very easily).
Overall reviews from parents are positive. Some people felt that the toddler sleep sack version did not hold up as well as the baby version, but this could be due to lighter fabric being used.
SIZE: 2t – 5t (although Halo carries products for size newborn-5t if you have a small toddler)
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS WEARABLE BLANKET:
This toddler sleep sack is rather large, which means there is room for your little one to tuck their feet in at night. Also, Halo is a good quality brand – regardless of product.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES:
There aren’t sleeves, and other parents have expressed concerns with the fabric becoming easily unraveled.
FLYING SQUIRREL
The Flying Squirrel (which you can grab on Amazon here) is made by the same people who brought us the Zipadee-Zip.
I’ll admit..I don’t feel like there is anything particularly “special” about this wearable blanket – except that it works and our daughter really likes it.
It comes with convertible hand and foot coverings, which is useful if you have a little one who prefers their feet covered if you don’t use a blanket or socks.
Overall, we have enjoyed ours. The sleeping sack is a little baggy, but it’s meant to be nice and loose so your toddler can move around easily.
The Flying Squirrel is advertised to fit kids between the ages of one and eight, so you can use it a long time.
SIZE: 12m – 5t
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS SLEEP SACK FOR TODDLERS
This sleep sack is a great option if you want convertible hand and foot coverings.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES:
There have been complaints made about the company who created the Zipadee-Zip and Flying Squirrel. The company may not offer refunds, so double check before purchasing.
Also – some people felt that the fabric around the ankles is a little tight – but the company states that it stretches out over time.
LETTAS SLEEPING SACK (with detachable sleeves)
The Lettas Sleeping Sack (available here on Amazon) is unique in that it has detachable sleeves – which is unusual for a wearable blanket.
It’s made from 100% cotton, which tends to be my preference when it comes to clothing for my kiddos. Your toddler can walk around in it, but you can tuck their feet up inside it when they are sleeping.
Overall, parents seem pretty happy with this product. Some felt that it was better quality than many of it’s competitors, so it may have a better chance holding up if you plan to wash it frequently.
SIZE: Their sizing is based off of sleeping length, which varies from 29.5 inches to 41 inches
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS TODDLER SLEEP SACK:
It’s very soft, made from cotton, and comes with detachable sleeves!
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES:
Some people felt it ran very large, so consider grabbing something smaller than what you would think you need (although it’s supposed to run larger so that your little one’s feet can fit inside).
TEALBEE DREAMSUIT
The TealBee Dreamsuit (here on Amazon) is a lovely toddler sleep sack that is made form bamboo and cotton.
This would be a great option if you are okay with paying a tiny bit extra for something fancy. It’s advertised as being softer than Cashmere – and a lot of parents seem to agree with this.
It does come with some different patterns, but be aware that the different patterns may have different TOG, so you will want to check this before purchasing.
SIZE: 12m-3t
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS TODDLER SLEEP SACK:
Maybe it’s just the marketing – but this looks like a quality sleep sack. I have never owned one, but a friend of mine loves hers (and it really is SUPER soft).
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES:
It’s a bit pricier than some others in its category, and the size only goes up to a 3t. Some complain that the fabric is not very sturdy and it wore holes quite quickly.
BABY DEEDEE FLEECE SACK
The Baby DeeDee sleep sack (found here) is a cozy option for your toddler’s wearable blanket.
There isn’t anything exceptionally special about this toddler sleep sack, but parents seem to really like (which I’m guessing means their kiddo really likes it too).
The fleece material is nice and soft, without being too thick or too thin.
SIZE: 18m-4t
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS WEARABLE BLANKET:
This toddler sleep sack is simple, soft, and comfortable. It allows for a lot of mobility and you have a choice between five colors.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES:
Although it’s ALL hearsay, there are some reviews that believe this product contains flame-retardant (although it is marketed as exactly the opposite.
Overall parents are happy (so it’s likely not true?) – but it’s a good thing to be aware of.
This sleep sack is made from organic cotton, and comes with removable sleeves.
VANIET BABY SLEEP SACK
These Vaniet Baby Sleep Sacks (see here) are not super popular – although I am not really sure why.
When I went a friend’s house and saw her little two-year-old dressed like a little chick, I needed to know where it came from.
Although the manufacturer doesn’t seem very clear on the information for these, those who have given them a chance have been happy overall.
The seller claims they are 100% cotton, although they aren’t clear about this in the description.
SIZE: range from 1 years old – 7 years old
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS TODDLER SLEEP SACK
The designs on these toddler sleep sacks are hard to beat – and your toddler will probably love them.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES
There just isn’t a lot of information from the seller, so I would be wary of your purchase. Luckily, they are pretty inexpensive if it didn’t end up being good quality.
ZIPADEE ZIP
Eventually I will do a separate review on the Zipadee Zip (found here), as these are some of my favorite sleep sacks (more for babies than toddlers).
The Zipadee Zip originally was seen on the show Shark Tank, so you KNOW it’s going to be kinda unique.
I loved the Zipadee Zip for babyhood because it stopped my baby from scratching her face, and was a great transitional blanket when we moved away from a swaddle.
Your toddler likely doesn’t have an issue with scratching their face, but some kids still appreciate keeping their hands covered and cozy.
These only go up to a size 24m, but you CAN get something similar from this company (the Flying Squirrel listed above).
SIZE: 4m-3t
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS TODDLER SLEEP SACK
My favorite part of this sleep sack is the amount of room it allows your toddler. Not only that, but the hand coverings are useful if your little one tries to scratch their face (obviously more of a problem with babies).
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES
Make sure you read the downsides for the Flying Squirrel, as the same is true of this product. The other potential downside is the Zipadee-Zip would be difficult for your toddler to walk in.
HOW WE REVIEWED THE BEST TODDLER SLEEP SACKS
When deciding which toddler sleep sacks to include in our list, there were a number of things we looked at.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Most of them are toddler wearable blankets that I or a friend have personal experience with. There were definitely some that we did not feel were good quality, and we kept those off of this list.
COMFORT
It’s important to take comfort into consideration when looking at toddler sleep sacks. The difficult thing about buying online is you cannot feel the material for yourself. If we had not personally used the blanket, we made sure that reviewers commented on the softness of the sleep sack.
REVIEWS
We looked at the reviews before recommending any of these sleep sacks. If the item had less than a 4.0 rating, it did not make it on our list.
QUALITY
Quality HAS to be considered when you are looking at a toddler sleep sack. If nothing else – you will be washing it a lot. So we made sure that the blankets we included are known for lasting more than a couple of washes.

OTHER COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING TODDLER SLEEP SACKS
WHAT IS TOG?
TOG is a measurement of thermal resistance. It rates how well insulated a garment or in this case, a blanket is. The higher this number, the warmer the fabric.
WHY IS TOG IMPORTANT?
A sleep sack that is great for me may not be great for you. Every sleep sack should have a TOG rating, which will give you an idea regarding whether the sleep sack you choose is too heavy or not.
TOG is important because overheating can happen fairly quickly. Honestly, it’s pretty unlikely your toddler would overheat without you knowing, but it’s still risky.
CAN A TODDLER USE A SLEEP SACK?
There’s no reason that a toddler cannot use a sleep sack, and it’s going to be a tad safer than using a regular blanket (as there is absolutely no risk of suffocation or strangulation).
If you used a sleep sack when your little one was a baby, they may prefer a sleep sack as that is what they are used to.
WHEN SHOULD I STOP USING A WEARABLE BLANKET FOR MY TODDLER?
It’s fair to wonder when you should stop using a wearable blanket. Truth be told, you can use one as long as you and your toddler want to.
It’s certainly not harmful to use one, but at some point your little one will want to graduate to using a real blanket.
HOW MANY WEARABLE BLANKETS DO I NEED?
You only need one wearable blanket, but it’s certainly easier to have multiples since they have to be washed so frequently.
WHY DO MOST SLEEP SACKS COME WITHOUT SLEEVES?
Sleeves can potentially be dangerous on a sleep sack, as it’s going to be more likely that your little one will overheat. If you live in a very cold climate, sleeves may make sense which is why we included a couple of options with sleeves.
WRAPPING UP THE BEST 2023 SLEEP SACKS FOR TODDLERS
Overall, a sleep sack is a great option for a lot of toddlers, but if you feel yours is ready for a real blanket – feel free to try it. According to the AAP, you can begin trying to use a real blanket after twelve months, so your toddler is certainly old enough for it.
If your toddler (like mine) has a strong preference to being hugged by a wearable blanket, rest assured that they will have this option until they are six or seven.
